Dr. Christina Joanitis

I'm Dr. Christina Joanitis. I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the South Bay, CA. For the past decade, I have worked in a private practice setting providing individual and couples therapy as well as psychological assessment. I am passionate about seeing individuals find healing and wholeness in their life. By providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals to emote, process past hurts and traumas, and identify unhealthy behavioral patterns, I work with my clients to normalize emotions, challenge cognitive distortions, and develop a healthier view of self. Whether you are coming into therapy for the first time and need some help feeling comfortable, or whether you are looking for your 20th therapist and just want a safe landing place, I am here to support you. I also work hard to offer an unbiased and nonjudgemental space at whatever stage of your faith journey you land on (or not at all!). I work with many individuals from the LGBTQIA+ population and from a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds. My job is not to tell you what to believe but to support you on your journey of becoming the best version of you, you can be. I look forward to meeting you!

Michael Joanitis

Hey there! My name is Mike and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the South Bay. I don't believe therapy is about fixing what is broken. Instead, I see it as a collaborative partnership where we look at the survival strategies you built to get through tough times, and decide which of those strategies have served you, and which you are ready to let go of.

If you are feeling weighed down by anxiety, perfectionism, or the heavy burden of trying to keep everyone else happy, I want to help you find some relief. In our sessions, we will focus on three key areas:

  1. Understanding your story: We will look at your background and early relationships to see how your past created the invisible rules you might still be trying to follow today. This is the psychodynamic side of our work.

  2. Catching the thought loops: We will pinpoint the daily habits and self-critical thoughts that keep you stuck in overthinking, and find practical ways to break those patterns. This is where we use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

  3. Moving forward with purpose: We will build acceptance and mindfulness skills so you can handle stressful moments without losing your balance, allowing you to focus on what actually brings you fulfillment. This is based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

A significant part of my practice is dedicated to helping people heal from religious trauma and spiritual abuse, a field where I hold a clinical certification. I know how painful and disorienting it is to untangle your identity, navigate the loss of community, and process the deep-seated guilt that often follows a break from rigid dogmatic systems.

My goal is to offer a soft landing spot where you can process the grief, find your voice, and rebuild a grounded, meaningful life that is entirely your own.
